Xogħlijiet li se jsiru f’46 blokka ta’ housing soċjali

Matul l-2020 se jkun qiegħed jitwettaq proġett ta’ riġenerazzjoni f’46 blokka ta’ housing soċjali fil-lokalitajiet tas-Siġġiewi, Bormla, Rabat, Santa Luċija, Ħal Qormi, ż-Żejtun u San Ġiljan. Dan ħabbru l-Ministru għall-Akkomodazzjoni Soċjali Roderick Galdes li spjega li minn dan l-investiment ta’ €2.6 miljun se jkunu qegħdin jibbenefikaw 500 familja.

“Il-proġett ta’ bini ta’ housing soċjali ġdid ma jkunx jagħmel sens jekk bħala Gvern ma nieħdux ħsieb l-Oqsma tad-Djar eżistenti. Dan mhux biss għaliex huma assi tal-pajjiż iżda għaliex qabel kollox huma s-saqaf ta’ aktar minn ħamest elef familja. B’dan l-investiment ma nqisux bħala wieħed fil-bini nnifsu iżda investiment fil-kwalità tal-ħajja tal-familji tagħna,” tenna l-Ministru Roderick Galdes.

Dan il-proġett se jkun qiegħed isegwi proġetti oħra ta’ riġenerazzjoni li fi kliem il-Ministru Galdes reġgħu ngħataw il-ħajja fl-2013.

“Dan il-Gvern għandu ruħ soċjali u huwa għalhekk li sa mill-2013 assigura li jsir investiment fir-riġenerazzjoni ta’ dawn il-binjiet. Filfatt, fis-sena 2019 wettaqna proġett ta’ riġenerazzjoni fuq total ta’ 77 blokka b’investiment li laħħaq l-€4 miljuni. Proġett li mhux biss wassal biex il-familji li jgħixu f’dawn il-blokok qegħdin jgħixu f’ambjent aktar sigur u f’ambjent isbaħ iżda ta ukoll nifs ġdid liż-żona tal-madwar,” tenna l-Ministru Roderick Galdes.

Ix-xogħlijiet li se jkunu qegħdin isiru matul din is-sena jinkludu waterproofing tal-bjut, rinovar tal-opramorti, titjib ġenerali fil-partijiet komuni u rinovar tal-faċċati u gallariji. Xogħlijiet li se jkunu qegħdin isiru mill-Awtorità tad-Djar flimkien mal-Housing, Maintenance and Embellishment Ltd.

Min-naħa tiegħu, l-Kap Eżekuttiv tal-Awtorità tad-Djar Leonid McKay irrimarka li dawn il-proġetti qegħdin isiru parallel ma’ ħidma aktar wiesa li qegħda twettaq l-Awtorità.

“Il-ħidma tal-Awtorità f’dik li hija manutenzjoni ma tieqafx mar-riġenerazzjoni tal-binjiet ta’ housing soċjali hekk kif parallel magħha qegħda titwettaq ħidma oħra b’investiment sinifikanti. Fosthom ix-xogħlijiet ta’ tiswija f’appartamenti ta’ housing soċjali wara li jkun sar rapport mill-inkwilin, filfatt matul is-sena l-oħra saru 1,010 tiswija b’investiment ta’ aktar minn żewġ miljuni. Proġett ieħor huwa dak b’kollaborazzjoni mal-Kunsilli Lokali li jinkludi xogħlijiet fil-partijiet komuni, bl-investiment fuq dawn ix-xogħlijiet fl-2019 kien ta’ ftit anqas minn €400,000 li għamel id-differenza fil-ħajja ta’ 400 familja oħra. B’dawn huma biss ftit mix-xogħlijiet li qegħdin inwettqu bl-għan ewlieni tagħna li nkomplu ntejbu l-ambjent li fih jgħixu l-familji tagħna.”

Huwa kkonkluda billi tenna l-impenn tal-Awtorità tad-Djar li l-bżonnijiet tal-familji se jibqgħu fiċ-ċentru ta’ kull ħidma li ssir f’dan is-settur.

PRESS RELEASE ISSUED BY THE MINISTRY FOR SOCIAL ACCOMMODATION

500 families will benefit from an investment of 2.6 million in the regeneration of Housing Estates

Works will be carried out in 46 social housing blocks

A regeneration project in 46 social housing blocks will be carried out in the localities of Siggiewi, Cospicua, Rabat, Santa Luċija, Ħal Qormi, Żejtun and Saint Julians, throughout 2020. This was announced by the Minister for Social Accommodation Roderick Galdes who explained that 500 families will benefit from this investment of €2.6 million.

“The various construction projects currently underway aimed at building new social housing structures would not make sense if we as a Government fail to take care of the existing stock of social accommodation. The Government does not consider these buildings solely as assets of the country but we are of the firm belief that first and foremost they are the only roof over the heads of five thousand families. I do not consider this as an investment in the buildings themselves but an investment in the quality of life of our families,” Minister Roderick Galdes explained.

This project shall follow in the footsteps of other regeneration projects, which according to Minister Galdes were given a new lease on life in 2013.

“This Government has a social conscience and that is why it has committed itself since 2013 to invest in the regeneration of these buildings. In fact, in the year 2019 alone we carried out a regeneration project on a total of 77 blocks in an investment which was worth €4 million. This project did not only help these resident families enjoy a better standard of living within safer and more aesthetically pleasing homes but gave a breath of fresh air to the surrounding areas”, Minister Roderick Galdes stated.

The works which shall be carried out this year shall include waterproofing of roofs, general embellishment of the common areas and the refurbishment of facades and balconies. These works shall be supervised by the Housing Authority in collaboration with the Housing, Maintenance and Embellishment Ltd.

On his part, the Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Authority Leonid McKay remarked that these projects are being carried out in parallel with wider initiatives being promoted by the Authority.

“The work of the Authority with respect to maintenance does not end with the regeneration of social housing buildings since in parallel to these efforts, the Authority is carrying out other significant activities. These include the maintenance works in social housing apartments following reports from tenants, in fact we carried out around 1,010 such interventions last year through an investment of more than €2 million. The Authority is also engaged in another project in collaboration with Local Councils wherein it conducts works in common parts of various Estates, with an investment of around €400,000 in 2019, which has made a significant difference in the life of around 400 families. These are only a few of the projects which we are carrying out with the ultimate aim being of ameliorating the environment which our families live in.”

He concluded by stating that the Housing Authority remains committed to put the needs of families in the centre of its efforts in this sector.
