The Malta Housing Authority is inviting students to take part in a one-of-a-kind art competition and exhibition that celebrates its 50-year journey of shaping Malta’s urban and social landscape through public housing policy.
This competition offers an exciting platform for artists to visually explore how housing policy has influenced communities, identity, and social mobility over the last five decades. Selected artworks will not only be exhibited but five outstanding pieces will be transformed into official MaltaPost stamps, creating a lasting legacy of art and history.
To encourage true creativity, the Housing Authority invites all participants to embrace a free and open form of artistic expression. Whether abstract, conceptual, or traditional, artworks should reflect originality and the artist’s unique perspective without limitations on style or technique.
With the Housing Authority’s mission –
“To provide and sustain decent social and affordable housing opportunities, promoting stability and supporting social mobility” –
your artwork should:
- Complement the Housing Authority’s mission
- Question and provoke dialogue about its legacy and future
- Reflect critically on the human stories within public housing
- Be visually compelling and conceptually rich
The competition is open to all students who are passionate about art, regardless of faculty or field of study. Whether you’re a fine arts student, a design enthusiast, or simply love expressing yourself creatively, this competition is for you.
All submitted paintings will eventually be permanently displayed at the Intergenerational Housing Project in Valletta, a pioneering development that brings together residents of different generations to foster community, mutual support, and social inclusion. This vibrant setting will allow the artworks to be enjoyed by visitors and residents alike, celebrating the connection between art, housing, and community.
