Investment of more than €870,000 in Ħal Għaxaq to improve the quality of life of residents
The Ministry for Accommodation and Lands, through the Housing Authority, continues to invest in various communities, this time investing over €870,000 in Ħal Għaxaq through projects for embellishment, maintenance, lift installation and public space improvements.
During an on-site visit, Minister for Accommodation and Lands, Owen Bonnici, said, “This investment continues to demonstrate the Housing Authority’s commitment, which, in addition to providing quality housing, also continues to invest in the environment and the communities where residents live, in order to improve their quality of life.”
Mayor of Ħal Għaxaq, Karl Boxall, said, “This investment is a testament to the strong collaboration between the Local Council and the Housing Authority. These projects not only improve the condition of social housing but continue to enhance our locality and offer a better environment for residents.”
Extensive embellishment works are underway in six residential blocks with an investment of €609,829, benefitting 54 families. These works, which started in late April 2026, include façade maintenance, roof waterproofing, plastering and painting of roof and staircase areas, to better protect buildings from weathering and maintain their long-term condition.
At the same time, works are also underway to install two lifts at Block B in Ħal Għaxaq, with an investment of €235,000, to improve accessibility for residents.
In addition, during 2026, the Housing Authority entered into an agreement with the Ħal Għaxaq Local Council to carry out embellishment, maintenance and landscaping works in and around Garden Emanuel Vassallo. To this end, the Authority has allocated a €30,000 grant to improve public spaces within the social housing area and create a more beautiful and accessible environment for residents.
This visit was attended by the Housing Authority’s Chairman, Robert Ducker, Permanent Secretary, Ramon Deguara, and Mayor of Ħal Għaxaq, Karl Boxall.
