PRESS RELEASE BY THE MINISTRY FOR SOCIAL AND AFFORDABLE ACCOMMODATION AND BY THE MINISTRY FOR THE ENVIRONMENT, ENERGY AND PUBLIC CLEANLINESS

Signed agreement between the Housing Authority and ARMS Ltd in favour of further collaboration on real estate in Malta.

The Government continues to collect information on the property situation in our country, this time through a collaboration agreement and data sharing between the Housing Authority and ARMS Ltd.

The aim of this agreement is for the Government to have a clear picture of the housing situation for research purposes and policy improvements related to the same area, while ensuring that this data is protected.

Minister for Social and Affordable Accommodation Roderick Galdes highlighted the importance of this agreement as a step forward in improving social and affordable accommodation. “Through this agreement, we will have a more realistic and accurate picture of social and affordable housing in Malta, which is essential to continue implementation of measures that assist those who need state support,” he said.

Minister for the Environment, Energy and Public Cleanliness Miriam Dalli emphasised the sustainability aspect of the initiative. “This agreement is a concrete step towards using energy consumption as a reference point for policies and initiatives. Thanks to this agreement, we will be able to drive fairer and more sustainable initiatives,” she said.

This agreement creates a structure between the entities which enables and facilitates research, information sharing and statistics in a holistic manner. Through this information, the Housing Authority will be able to better understand the efficiency of the residential properties in Malta. In the future, the Authority would be able to further promote the use of the efficient property use by updating its schemes and introducing new schemes.

‘’Signing of this MOU is an important step towards greater transparency and efficiency in the housing sector. We are building our policy and support measures based on data and information that benefit both residents and all social partners in this sector.” Explained Matthew Zerafa, Chief Executive Officer of the Housing Authority, highlighting the importance of data and research in future development.

George Azzopardi, Chief Executive Officer of ARMS, noted that collaboration between government entities leads to more effective and efficient operations, guided by data and research, which ultimately help strengthen national policies.
