Aim of the Scheme
The Rehabilitation of Vacant Dwellings Scheme provides a financial grant of up to €25,000 to owners of vacant residential properties to rehabilitate their dwellings and lease them to the Housing Authority to be used for social housing purposes.
Once the dwelling meets residential standards and is suitable for occupation, it is leased to the Authority for 10 years, during which it is sublet to individuals or families eligible for social accommodation. During this period, the owner will receive tax-free rent payments in advance every 6 months. After the 10-year period, the Housing Authority returns the property to the owner in the same condition as it was handed over, accounting for normal wear and tear.
