"Building new social housing units is essential....but it is equally important to maintain the existing ones"
The words that resonated the most in one of the Housing Authority's CEO's speeches in the year 2021. Throughout the years the Housing Authority's buildings were neglected with very minimal work and maintenance being done. This view changed drastically in the past years with a number of projects per year to embellish the current stock of dwellings owned by the Housing Authority.
Embellishment is done for several reasons such as to carry out structural repairs; improve the condition of the common parts and to refurbish the facades.
On average the Authority embellishes over 40 blocks of apartments each year. The blocks are chosen through a systematic, multi-year program which ensures that no housing block remains run-down.
